Signal Atlas
A living brand narrative observatory.
Ivo North / Access / attention 79
A campaign story you can move through, question and trace.
Signal Atlas explores a simple idea: campaign reporting can show how a story changes as it moves, not only how many times it was seen. Each point is a synthetic mention, post or partner moment. Together they form a living map of timing, theme and attention.
This pilot deliberately uses invented data. It tests the visual language, interaction model and evidence boundaries before any connection to real campaign systems is considered.
How to read the atlas
- 01Start with time
Move the timeline to reveal only the signals that existed by that day.
- 02Find the carriers
Color distinguishes editorial, social, creator, partner and owned channels.
- 03Follow a theme
Filter the field to see which ideas gathered attention and which stayed quiet.
- 04Question the links
Solid lines are declared relationships. Dashed lines are interpretive possibilities.
- 05Open a receipt
Select any mark to read its source, language, strength and confidence.
The fictional campaign beneath the field
Northstar Run is an invented launch scenario built to exercise the full instrument without implying that the numbers belong to a client, outlet or real public response.
- Synthetic signals
- 240 Repeatable fixture receipts
- Narrative themes
- 8 Ideas tracked through time
- Communication channels
- 5 Editorial to owned media
- Scenario length
- 54d A fictional campaign arc
The fixture contains 240 synthetic communication signals across 54 days. Five channels carry eight narrative themes through a tease, reveal, community relay, cultural remix and second-life moment. The same seed recreates the same field on every load.
Attention is an illustrative index, not reach or media value. Confidence describes how complete a fictional receipt is. Relationship lines test two evidence classes: connections declared in the scenario and interpretive links that an analyst would still need to prove.
No client data, public web data, provider result or Heatcheck publication is read by this experience.
From scattered receipts to a navigable story
The system preserves the underlying list of receipts, then changes only how those same receipts are arranged and connected for a particular question.
- 01Normalize
Give every fictional signal a time, channel, theme, strength and source label.
- 02Place
Arrange signals by day and theme while retaining a stable seeded position.
- 03Connect
Draw declared and interpretive relationships with visibly different treatments.
- 04Reframe
Change from field to propagation, genome or white-space views without changing receipts.
- 05Inspect
Return from the visual pattern to a readable item and its exact scenario values.
Why this matters for communications work
Most reporting separates coverage, social response, creator activity and campaign milestones into different pages. Signal Atlas tests whether those fragments can become one coherent narrative space while keeping the source list close enough to challenge the picture.
The useful shift is from a scorecard to an observatory. A strategist can ask when a message changed, which channel carried it, what stayed connected after launch and where the intended story failed to gather a response.
What this pilot does not prove
- A visual connection is not proof that one signal caused another.
- The attention index is invented and cannot be compared with campaign performance.
- Theme labels are assigned by the fixture, not by a validated language model or human coding workflow.
- No identity, audience or sentiment claim should be inferred from the spatial arrangement.
- Real use requires governed source ingestion, deduplication, human review and receipt-level provenance.
What the instrument controls change
Every control changes the reading or composition; none rewrites the stored synthetic receipts.
- Views
Field shows the whole conversation, Propagation emphasizes campaign moments, Genome follows theme strands and White space compares intended range with observed attention.
- Timeline and play
Reveal the scenario in order or pause on a day to inspect the state at that moment.
- Channel and theme filters
Reduce the field to one communication carrier or narrative idea.
- Relationship layers
Show declared links, interpretive links or both. The visual difference remains explicit.
- Camera and format
Recompose the same data for overview, exploration or detail and test common motion-graphic aspect ratios.
What a real version could become
The fictional pilot creates a safe interface contract for later adapters rather than pretending the data connection already exists.
- Campaign narrative map
Combine governed coverage, owned moments and reviewed social evidence into one traceable story.
- Brief-to-response comparison
Compare intended themes with the language that actually appears, while keeping human review in the loop.
- Client story playback
Save a guided sequence of views as an interactive report chapter or deterministic motion graphic.
- Opportunity radar
Surface strong but underused themes, missing channels and moments that deserve a second communication wave.
