Typography becomes a moving material.

Type Field repeats words, letters or symbols across a canvas, then gives the whole arrangement rules for spacing, scale, rotation, color and movement. A short phrase can become a wave, a textile, a landscape or a dense graphic texture.

The same recipe drives what you see and what you export. That makes the instrument useful for exploring campaign identities and social motion without rebuilding the idea for every output format.

From a word to a visual field

  1. 01Write

Start with a word, phrase or repeated character.

  2. 02Arrange

Choose the spacing, density and overall shape of the field.

  3. 03Distort

Add wave, rotation, scale or perspective-like variation.

  4. 04Move

Set a loop length and decide how the field changes through time.

  5. 05Export

Capture the chosen frame or loop for use outside Lab.

One saved recipe can recreate the same composition.

Every visible choice is stored as a set of values. The preview, still image, vector artwork and video capture all read that same set instead of maintaining separate versions of the design.

Because the settings are portable, a composition can be saved, shared as a small preset file and reopened later. Imported values are checked and kept within safe limits before they reach the renderer.

A locally selected font remains inside the browser. The tool reads its outlines for vector export, but it does not upload or store the file on a server.

For curious readers: “deterministic” means the same approved settings and moment in time produce the same arrangement. It does not mean every device will encode video with perfectly identical color or compression; those differences still need testing.

How one frame is composed

The field may contain thousands of placements, but each one follows the same readable sequence of decisions.

  1. 01Set the stage

Choose a social ratio, output size and background.

  2. 02Measure the type

Read the chosen text and font so spacing remains consistent.

  3. 03Place the copies

Distribute the text across the selected field pattern.

  4. 04Apply motion

Use the chosen time to calculate wave, scale, rotation and color.

  5. 05Draw or capture

Render the live view or pass the same moment to an export.

Why treat type as a system instead of a title card?

Typography can carry both language and atmosphere. Repeating one phrase makes the message physically present in the composition while motion changes its emotional pace—from calm and architectural to loud and unstable.

A rule-based field can also become a flexible identity. The wording, color and rhythm can change for each post while the underlying behavior remains recognizable across a campaign.

What this study does not prove

  • The local legacy preset catalog is a private comparison reference and is not shown on public hosts.
  • A chosen font may carry licensing limits even though the file never leaves the browser.
  • MP4 support, encoding speed and color can differ by browser and device.
  • The current experience is a Lab instrument, not yet a shared component used across the monorepo.

What the main control groups change

You can begin with a preset, then work from the most visible design decisions toward the finer details.

  1. Field

Controls the number, spacing and larger arrangement of the repeated text.

  2. Type

Changes the words, font, weight, scale, color and relationship between copies.

  3. Motion

Sets loop length, pace, wave and other changes that unfold over time.

  4. Transport

Play, pause, restart or scrub to an exact moment in the loop.

  5. Preset files

Save the current recipe as JSON or reopen a previously saved recipe.

  6. Export

Choose a still, vector or video result and a practical output size.

Where the research could go next

These directions extend the same portable recipe instead of replacing it with a new tool.

  1. Audio-shaped type

Let rhythm and sound texture influence density, wave and emphasis.

  2. Campaign kits

Package approved words, fonts, ratios and motion ranges into a recognizable visual family.

  3. Batch social output

Generate coordinated portrait, square and landscape versions from one composition.

  4. Shared renderer

Move the stable engine into a reusable package after behavior and exports are proven.

Experiment 002 / Type Field

Type Field is a browser-based typographic motion instrument. It connects visual experimentation to repeatable output while keeping imported fonts and presets local to the user’s browser.
